quick mid season review of ted lasso after finishing s4e6: easily the best episode of the season so far with a surprise cameo from my goat, episode did a great job of exploring all the characters' relationships and was just overall fun
for the entire season thus far, there is a disappointing lack of the titular character, although the women's team has been enjoyable, they still don't hold up to the men's team from the first season in terms of memorability or comradery, keeley still somehow manages to be the worst main character 2 seasons in a row (despite being one of the best for the first 2 seasons), hoping that the rest of the season manages to pull through

to the class part demons during the Peter Singer lecture earlier:
your questions were insufficient in generating any meaningful discussions because you created them with the sole purpose of trying to garner your BQ professor’s class participation, when a simple google search or a semblance of critical thinking could have answered your needless question
instead you waste the time and mind of Peter Singer, and rob the opportunity of people who have actual questions of substance to ask him
except for that last guy, your question was goated and I’m sorry that Professor Singer was no longer in the headspace to properly answer it
---
i’m actually so upset that i got to see a Peter Singer lecture, only to not be able to ask him anything because of these people

Erich Fromm is yapping sooooo much in To Have or To Be? I get that you need to provide a lot of examples to hammer home the point, but my god, it is so ridiculously long winded and drawn out when all I want is to move onto the next point.

uninstalling deadlock has unshackled me from the fundamental effects of pure unfiltered addiction that the game possesses me with, no longer will i have the unquenchable urge to endlessly queue up for matches that ultimately results in losses and misappropriated time
at least until next content patch arrives, yeah then i’ll probably start playing again

watched the second episode of ted lasso season 4 and i’ve changed my tune
it is unbelievably astounding the difference in quality between the 1st and 2nd episode. although i wouldn’t yet say its a return to form, it very much captures the spirit that the earlier seasons had in terms of the quality of writing
coach chilton is an amazing addition to the cast and i hope her character can act as a good subversive alternative to ted’s character
the 1st episode genuinely feels like it was written as an afterthought in an attempt to bridge the gap between the previous season’s ending and the start of the 2nd episode, like they wrote and filmed the 2nd episode and beyond first and then realized “shit, we actually need to figure out how ted comes back to richmond in the first place”, which would makes sense when considering filming schedules

ok i’ve had some time to think and really process the movie so it’s time for an actual review
movie theater etiquette is atrocious for blockbusters, you get genuinely some of the most brainless audience going to the cinema just to be on their phones the entire time because they’re incapable of being media literate, they HAVE to watch their AI slop dramas just to pass the time when two characters are doing nothing but talking on screen without the hype moments and aura, PLEASE tell me why they need to have their phones FLASHING ON FULL BRIGHTNESS, no genuinely why is your phone flashing, what kind of feature do you have on your phone, why do you need to talk so loudly and go to the bathroom every 5 minutes and suddenly have on-set stage 5 lung cancer hacking away during crucial dialogue moments
this is exactly why i only go see movies in empty theaters

thank you destin daniel cretton
easily the most stylish live action spiderman, liked the ending, disappointed with tramell tillman and sadie sink’s performance but hoping that’s just the character writing, disappointed with how they handled yelena’s scenes (but seeing her was good), liked it overall

i plan to finish watching the season and sincerely hope that the show manages to reach the same highs that it had prior, but this first episode is lackluster enough that i don’t think it’s going to happen again, especially since my goat jamie tart isn’t in this season

watched the first episode of ted lasso season 4 last night, what used to be one of my favourite shows of all time has become nothing but an imitation of its “good times”. with season 1, you had the weight of ted’s optimistic personality slowly changing and affecting people around him, you know that everyone who hated him in that first episode will eventually come to love him by the end, and the first season revolves around the journey of that happening
season 2 had less to work with because everyone already loves him, so now you get a deep dive into everyone’s life and their personalities with the introduction of the therapist character, not only do we get more insight into ted’s character, we get insight into characters like nate and jamie
the biggest issue with season 3 was its absolute refusal to show any of the “big moments”, like a fight scene hyped up in a shonen only for it to be off screened, we only see the aftermath of all the important interactions that the show builds up towards, but never happens, and the ending of season 3 was melancholic, it did feel like a definitive end to the entire show
until season 4 was announced and the entire point of the ending gets “ret-conned”, despite being the first episode of the season, the writers somehow manage to make half the episode filler with rebecca, keeley, and leslie exploring a ridiculously happy friendly fake-town vibes kansas/missouri adding nothing to the plot (i get that they wanted to show off these characters exploring a place that they’ll likely never visit in the show again, but this kind of “fan-service” leaves much to be desired), the whole episode somehow feels overwhelming PG friendly, with a corny opening that would’ve been good if we were introduced to ted the first time, to the on the nose script attempting to mirror what the viewers are feeling, and the entire visuals of the scenes being made out of shiny glossy plastic

listened to the new Weezer song, C.E.O, the instrumentals are really reminiscent of the Blue album, particularly undone sweater, lyrics as always have something left to be desired when it comes to weezer, rivers acknowledges that a lot of the songs that he wants to write aren’t what the fans want by airing out his grievances in the song, comparing his fans to that of a corporate CEO that wants nothing but “profit”, very surface level analysis, overall enjoyed it but probably won’t be my favourite from the gold album, fun music video directed by curry barker tho
